Lot GW-09: Lerida Rodstar - Finca Lérida

This is a beautiful coffee. Is super elegant in the fragrance. What an amazing aroma. Is a straightforward traditional Geisha. Exceptionally massive on florals such as jasmine, vanilla flower, yellow florals, roses, lavender & coffee Blossom.

The cup is more like a chalice in the hot drink... abundant in juicy fruit flavors like peach, lychee, stone fruit, white nectarine, nectarine, apricot, white stone fruit, blueberry, melon, plum, apple, green melon, mango, red cherry, tropical fruits, berries, strawberry jam, kiwi, green apple, prune, papaya, grapes, passionfruit, purple fruits, red & green grapes with a delicious winey pinch.

When the touch of dry fruits like almond, peanuts, nuts & cocoa come into play as it cools down... they give as a result a delicious structure, soft and round. With the mix of chocolate, baker's chocolate & marzipan... is so creamy & yummy... is a very strong mineral experience in the form of biscuits & a chunky mouthfeel.

Its acidity is saturated in citrus fruits like bergamot, lemon, lime, orange, mandarin, tangerine & grapefruit; with a strong tea & herbal notes such as lemon tea & peel, black tea, lemongrass, green tea & cascara. Is enjoyable as it evolves to a multi-layered bright, vivid, clear filled cup with a delightful... yet gentle high phosphoric acidity. Is so blazing, zesty, uplifting & juicy. With a high malic apple-like-acidity holding it together.

Is well balanced with a smooth, delicious structure. A classic geisha... very solid coffee.

It's spicy too... showing high levels of black currant, cloves & cedar. Notes that combined exceptionally well with blueberry and a strong sugar browning expression becoming super sweet like cotton candy, butterscotch, caramel, maple syrup, toffee, honey, molasses covering the florals for a while. Then the jasmine woke up striking back till the end with an improved spread and strength as it cooled. Is so tasty!

The aftertaste of this coffee is juicy, juicy, juicy. Is a good sample of Panama Geisha. So transparent, crystal clear & clean. Is elegant, juicy, jammy, chewy, silky & milky. JUST BEAUTIFUL.

Producer Story:

The history of Lerida started with love for family, a paradise and coffee. Nowadays it continues with love in the same terms. Love that gave fruits through Julia and Tollef Monniche in Boquete in their period and continues today through the hearts and hands of Maria Antonella Amoruso, Juan Carlos Areces and their family.

Nevertheless, throughout its existence it has played a capital role in the history of Panama, being the first farm to export coffee to Germany in 1929. Thus, leading the way for a premature specialty coffee industry for this blessed, humble and small country. Yes... those first coffee beans were very special in the cup (check out the link for more information). Today is no less with the Panama Geisha varietal that we cherish too.

What started back then as a family coffee consumption for the Monniches soon turned to a family business. Today is no different for Maria and Juan Carlos.
They love the panamanian specialty coffee industry and what has turned out to be with the added main role of the Panama Geisha. They now follow the lead that it plays for the whole Panama coffee industry. As maturing specialty coffee producers, they are being impacted not only by their family and the industry but also by all the families that together gravitate surrounded by the same beautiful forests, birds and exotic coffee history that enriches Lerida's beautiful cup.
